History made by Nigar Sultana

Two days prior, Bangladesh hosted its inaugural women’s first-class cricket competition, representing a notable milestone for women’s cricket in the country. This occurrence was unprecedented in the country. Today, Nigar Sultana made history by being the first woman in Bangladesh to score a century in women’s first-class cricket.

The national women’s cricket team skipper delivered an outstanding unbeaten innings of 153 runs during the initial innings of the Central Zone’s match against the North Zone, held today at the Shaheed Kamaruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi.

By the end of the first day, Nigar remained unbeaten on eighty-five runs. The first woman to score a century in first-class cricket achieved this milestone using 215 balls. Her score of 153 from 253 balls, including twenty boundaries and many sixes, enabled her to remain unbeaten.

Several batters approached the three-figure mark over the initial two days of the Bangladesh Women’s Cricket competition, the inaugural competition of its type. In the North Zone, Farjana Haque, a national team member, scored eighty-six runs.

Following an impressive start on the inaugural day, Sharmin Akhter of East Zone was dismissed for eighty-eight runs. This occurred after her robust commencement.

On the second day of the match, Ayesha Rahman, representing the South Zone, missed her century by six runs.

Al Shahriar Rokon, a former national team cricketer, is the first national player to make a century in the inaugural format. Bangladesh had not received test status before that period.
