U-19 Women’s Asia Cup
In the concluding match of the Under-19 Women’s Asia Cup held today, Sunday, in Kuala Lumpur, the Bangladesh Under-19 Women’s cricket team was beaten by India by 41 runs.
Consequently, they could not attain a dual triumph. The recent victory of Bangladesh’s male Under-19 team in the Asia Cup against India has inspired the young women’s team to pursue a similar level of achievement.
Despite this, India ultimately showed superior strength, precluding them from attaining the title of the most successful team in Asia for male and female youth cricket. India batted first, scoring 117 runs for 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. The opener, Gongadi Trisha, was the catalyst in pursuing over 100 runs. In her innings of 52 runs off 47 balls, she struck five fours and two sixes, decisively overpowering the Bangladeshi bowlers.
Mithila Vinod accumulated 17 points, securing the second-highest total, while captain Niki Prasad contributed 12 points. Farjana Yasmin achieved figures of 4-31 for Bangladesh, while Nishita Akter Nishi contributed notably with 2-23. Bangladesh’s innings concluded at 76 runs in 18.3 overs while striving to achieve 118, a target generally challenging for young girls at this level.
Only two batters achieved double-digit scores, with Juairiya Ferdous recording the highest score of 22. Fahmida Choya made a significant impact by opening the batting for the side and scoring 18 runs. While Parunika Sisodia and Sonam Yadav each secured two wickets, Aayushi Shukla claimed three for 17 runs, effectively dismantling Bangladesh’s batting lineup.
