Equity’s legal arm protects TV stars

Actors Equity Bangladesh has taken a bold step to protect television artists from Bullying and harassment by launching a special legal wing.

Last two March, a special press meeting was organised where Ahsan Habib Nasim, President of Actors Equity, and several artists talked to the media about the alarming issues.

Ahsan Habib said, “When artists are unduly harassed and bullied, they feel a sense of crisis and suffer mentally due to the trauma. The legal wing of Actors Equity Bangladesh will ensure that artists never feel alone throughout their perils.”

“If anyone tries to defame an artiste, it creates a harmful image of our country. Therefore, we have taken this initiative to prevent all misinformation and harassment against our artists,” concluded the actor.

The legal team will have three lawyers specialising in crises: Advocate Shah Manjurul Haque, Barrister Pritu Firoze and Advocate Hasan Ferdous Jewel. They will be providing all kinds of legal support to the artists throughout their trial periods.

ADC Nazmul Islam and ADC Khondokar Lenin of the cyber crime department of the Police will assist them with their cases. Urmila Srabonti Kar, Law and Welfare Secretary, will coordinate the legal team.

Also present at the event were Dolly Zahur, Azmeri Haque Badhan, Prova, and Jyotika Jyoti, among others.
