Prof Yunus Urges Resistance Against Anti-Election Conspiracies
In a politically charged atmosphere ahead of Bangladesh’s upcoming national election, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has issued a stirring appeal for unity among democratic forces. Addressing senior leaders of various political parties at a high-level meeting held at the State Guesthouse Jamuna on a recent Saturday, Prof Yunus warned of renewed efforts by defeated forces to derail the democratic process.

In his remarks, Prof Yunus spoke plainly, accusing those defeated in the past of actively sowing chaos and conspiracies to sabotage the forthcoming polls. “They are seriously disrupting the country’s natural progress,” he said. “Whenever we move forward with election preparations, fresh conspiracies begin to surface.”
Yet amidst this atmosphere of uncertainty, Yunus struck a tone of cautious optimism. “No conspiracy can hinder the journey towards democratic progress,” he stated, citing a “visible unity” among anti-fascist democratic forces.
The meeting was not only about words but also gestures of respect and solemnity. Proceedings began with a moment of silence for those who lost their lives in the tragic plane crash that struck Milestone School and College. A munajat (prayer) was offered for the deceased and for the recovery of the injured an emotional note that underscored the gravity of the gathering.
According to the Chief Adviser’s Senior Assistant Press Secretary, Foyez Ahammad, the meeting began around 5 PM and was part of a broader dialogue initiative by Prof Yunus to engage with political stakeholders across the spectrum.
Just days before this meeting, Prof Yunus sat with four major political parties BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, and the National Citizen Party (NCP). He later expanded the dialogue to include 13 more parties, including Ganosamhati Andolon, AB Party, Nagorik Oikya, Gono Odhikar Parishad, LDP, Khelafat Majlis, Biplobi Workers Party, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), and the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB).
In a political climate often marked by polarization and suspicion, Prof Yunus’ initiative seeks to foster a collaborative environment where differences can coexist with democratic commitment. He expressed hope that all political parties would ultimately cooperate to ensure a free and fair election an aspiration many in the nation share but few dare to vocalize so publicly.
As Bangladesh edges closer to a pivotal national moment, the Chief Adviser’s call serves as both a warning and a rallying cry: democracy can only thrive when its defenders stand together against the forces that wish to undermine it.
