Star maker, Sohanur Rahman Sohan

He basically told the story of love on the screen. ‘Qayamat theke Qayamat’, ‘Amar Ghar Amar Behesht’, Anant Valosha’—the  romantic appeal of his movies touched the youth of the 90s. He has also done some remakes of popular Hindi movies. But there was something extra in those remakes; by adding something extra to the movies while keeping the original story intact, the impression of the director would have been clear. Sohanur Rahman Sohan, one of the romantic filmmakers of Dhaka films, is no more. He died on September 13.

He was 64 years old. Sohan was sleeping at home, and the housekeeper did not get his response despite many calls. Later, he was taken to Uttara Crescent Hospital in an unconscious state. After the examination, the doctors said that Sohan died in his sleep before being taken to the hospital. He had been suffering from diabetes for a long time. However, the doctors could not confirm the cause of Sohan’s death.

Three daughters are still alive. Sohanur Rahman Sohan was mourning the loss of his life partner. Sohan’s wife, Priya Rahman, died of a brain haemorrhage. Sohan also passed away within 24 hours of his wife’s death.

Sohan wanted to bury her next to his wife’s grave. He was buried at the Tangail Central Cemetery after the funeral at the old bus stand mosque in Tangail.

Sohan came to Dhaliwood as an assistant director to producer Shibli Sadiq in the late 1970s. In 1988, he made his name as a director with the movie ‘Biswa AbiswS’. In 1993, he gained fame by directing “Qayamat theke Qayamat”. Sohan is known for directing romantic movies in a career spanning four decades. Sohan has directed many movies, including ‘Anant Bhalosha’, ‘Amar Jaan Amar Pran’, ‘Koti Takkar Prem’, and ‘Se Amar Man Kedeche’. Sohan was born on October 15, 1959, in Phulbari, Sariakandi Upazila, Bogra. He came to Dhaka after completing his school and college life in Bogra and Joypurhat.

Sohanur Rahman Sohan is the master behind the star-making. The current top hero, Shakib Khan, also became a hero with his hand.

Sohan gave this hero the name Shakib while keeping the original name. Shakib made his film debut with this director’s movie, ‘Anant Mahada’ (1999).

Also, Poppy and Erin Zaman debut in Sohan’s hands. He has directed 25 movies.

Apart from filmmaking, he has also worked as a teacher of filmmaking and acting at various universities and private ventures.

He served as Secretary General and Vice President twice in the Bangladesh Film Directors Association.

His death cast a shadow of mourning in the showbiz arena. He was associated with the Cinebuzz family for life. His death caused an irreparable loss to the showbiz arena. Cinebuzz Films Pvt. Ltd. has condoled his death. Sohanur Rahman Sohan Master Star maker.
