The Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Hi-Tech Park in Rajshahi, which is home to the seventh location of Star Cineplex and which, on January 13 of this year, had the grand opening of the new location, Others, including the Minister of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, Dr. Hasan Mahmud, MP; the State Minister of ICT, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, MP; the Chairman of Star Cineplex, Mahboob Rahman Ruhel; and acclaimed actress Azmeri Haque Badhan, were present at the opening ceremony.
Badhan stated during the show, “Star Cineplex is expanding at a time when movie theatres around the country are closing down one by one. For that reason, this is fantastic news for the film business. I’m crossing my fingers that the country will soon have even more movie theatre complexes.”
At the opening ceremony, Star Cineplex Chairman Mahboob Rahman Ruhel made the following remarks: “The city of Rajshahi boasts a long and illustrious history. Many residents of this magnificent metropolis long for the arrival of a multiplex comparable to Star Cineplex. We received several requests from a wide variety of sources. This makes me very delighted because I was able to grant their wishes.”
After the inauguration, the venue showed “Mujib Amar Pita,” the first full-length animated feature in the country, as well as “Avatar: The Way of the Water.” The Star Cineplex in Rajshahi can fit 172 people inside its theatre.
Opening in Dhaka’s Bashundhara City Shopping Complex on October 8, 2004, ‘Star Cineplex’ was the first multiplex cinema in the country. There are five locations in Dhaka: the Bashundhara City Shopping Complex, the Shimanto Sambhar in Dhanmondi, the SKS Tower in Mohakhali, the Sony Square in Mirpur, and the Bangabandhu Military Museum. A Star Cineplex theatre debuted in the Bali Arcade mall in Chattogram in the previous December.
