Shamima loses appeal

Shamima Begum was unable to demonstrate that she was forced to travel to Syria by human traffickers in her appeal against the UK government’s decision to revoke her citizenship.

The Court of Appeal revoked Shamim’s British citizenship on Friday.

The court ruled that Shamima, who is 24 years old, must remain in the Syrian refugee settlement. Is it possible for her to go back to Britain? The court determined that Shamima’s citizenship removal was adversarial and attributed her misfortune to her actions.

The court is not considered legal. We are solely responsible for determining the legitimacy of his citizenship rejection. That was incorrect. His request was denied.

Shamima hails from a Bangladeshi bloodline. In 2015, he journeyed to Syria with two friends from east London when he was 15. Upon arriving in Syria, Shamima married an ISIS fighter. I am a proud father of three children. Unfortunately, all the children passed away.

In February 2019, I came across Shamima at a Syrian refugee camp. According to him, the former British Home Secretary Sajid Javid revoked his citizenship, citing national security concerns—Shamima, without nationality.

In 2020, a UK tribunal declared Shamima a national. His Bangladeshi heritage makes him eligible. My mother hails from Bangladesh.

The Special Immigration Appeals Commission (SIAC) in the UK rejected Shamima’s appeal. Shamima, a terrorist recruit, was deported from the UK and imprisoned in Syria for sexual exploitation, as revealed during the trial. Interior Minister Javid was unable to revoke his citizenship.

This verdict banned Shamima Begum from returning to the UK from the refugee camp.
