Post-World Cup, Shakib will step down as captain

Last August, Tamim Iqbal suddenly announced his intention to quit the captaincy. As a result, Shakib Al Hasan took on the responsibility of ODI captain for the third round. Under his leadership, the Bangladesh team left the country on Wednesday to participate in the World Cup. In an interview given to T-Sports today, Shakib said that he will leave the captaincy at the end of the World Cup.

Shakib said, ‘This World Cup is over. I will not (captain) a day after that. That’s why I didn’t want to take it before the Asia Cup. Still, it’s not. I felt like I wanted to laugh, play, and perform. I didn’t want to do this for one reason:

Shakib also said, ‘There is no other reason. It is best if there is no captain. Is captaincy adding any value to my career at this stage? I don’t think so.’

Regarding Tamim’s resignation from the captaincy, Shakib said, I never thought that anyone would give up the captaincy at that time!

Shakib revealed that he had no hand in Riyad not being included in the Asia Cup squad. Shakib said, ‘I was sent to the Asia Cup team. I saw Riyad Bhai is not on the team. I didn’t have anything to say because everyone left the next day. Everyone is telling me that I am not like Riyad Bhai. This is ridiculous. Human psychology is like that. I don’t know anything. That too has been blamed on me.’
