Sanjeeta Bhattacharya completed her music education at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in the United States before pursuing a career in acting. She started with minor roles in productions such as “Feels Like Ishq” and “The Broken News” but is now ready for her big break on the silver screen. She will be starring alongside the renowned Shahrukh Khan in their upcoming film called “Jawan.”
However, what distinguishes her even further from our perspective is the recent disclosure of her Bengali heritage, as reported by an Indian media outlet.
Originating from Delhi, the individual conveyed that her paternal lineage can be traced back to Kolkata, whereas her maternal ancestry can be traced back to Mymensingh, Bangladesh. Despite being in a foreign country, she acquired proficiency in the Bengali language through familial instruction, establishing a profound bond with her cultural heritage.
I am acquainted with several individuals of Bengali descent who possess no proficiency in the Bangla language. I identify as an expatriate Bengali individual. However, it should be noted that my father hails from Calcutta, while my mother originates from Mymensingh. Sanjeeta elucidated that the amalgamation of Bengali and Ghati influences is predominantly Bengali in nature inside her household, hence highlighting her cultural fusion.
Debuting on the silver screen alongside Shah Rukh Khan is a dream come true for Sanjeeta. Reflecting on this incredible opportunity, she shared, “To be honest, I still can’t believe the whole thing.”
Our team has dedicated nearly two years to the development of the project known as ‘Jawan’. The film is scheduled to be released within a short period. I am gradually assimilating all the exhilaration. Upon witnessing my image projected onto the expansive cinema screen, I anticipate experiencing a profound realisation that my long-held aspiration has indeed materialised.
Sanjeeta was very excited when talking about her co-stars, Shah Rukh Khan and Nayantara. I feel lucky to be working with someone as exceptional as Shah Rukh Khan. His presence on set amplifies everyone’s enthusiasm. Nayantara is also very impressive.
Her journey to ‘Jawan’ was a twist of fate during the pandemic. Her first series ‘Feels Like Ishq” was released on Netflix in July 2021. “A month after that, in August, I got a call to act in ‘Jawan’,” the actress revealed.
“During the Covid, I don’t know how they found me. The series itself makes sense, because that’s when I got the call. But I had to audition,” she added.
