Comfortable fashion in monsoons

When working during the rainy season, it’s important to take extra precautions beyond just wearing regular clothes and going outside. Therefore, it’s beneficial to be mindful when selecting appropriate rain attire for a safer experience.

Consider incorporating darker hues into your wardrobe to uplift your mood this season. You may find deep purple, indigo, ebony, emerald green, fuchsia, olive, teal, maroon, navy blue, and aquamarine to be highly impactful.

As the monsoon season brings moisture and water accumulation to the roads, wearing darker clothing can help you avoid potential water splash stains and keep your attire clean.

For this occasion, it’s better to choose a long kameez or a short shirt instead of a fatua. To achieve a casual and everyday look, you can wear loose-fitting palazzos, skirts, printed or checked shirts, and trousers. If you want to look more put-together, you can opt for a ladies’ punjabi tunic, kaftan, or a short dress.

Avoid wearing cotton and other heavily threaded fabrics, as well as thick knits. Cotton clothing takes longer to dry after getting wet in the rain. Knitted cotton or those with coarse fibres take an especially long time to dry.

Additionally, soaking in the rain causes these fabrics to stick to the skin, causing discomfort and prolonging skin-to-water contact, thereby increasing the risk of catching a cold. When cotton gets wet, it may become stained or develop a musty smell.

During the monsoon season, it’s important to consider the elevated levels of atmospheric humidity. When choosing fabrics for garments, prioritise those with fast drying times.

During the humid monsoon season, we highly recommend fabrics such as half silk, bright silk, crepe silk, art silk, semi-tsar silk, and silk blended with cotton for their comfort and quick drying properties.

These fabric options are available in a variety of clothing items, including sarees, kurtis, Punjabi tops, and salwar kameez. Opting for loose-fitting attire is advisable, as it prevents the fabric from sticking to the skin when exposed to rain.

Additionally, consider exploring frock-style clothing with fringes as a creative and practical option for the monsoon season.

Certain work environments require specific clothing, and they discourage loose attire. In such situations, you have the option to wear a short or long coat, a double or chiffon georgette shrug, or a combination of these to provide protection from harsh weather conditions. Despite its lightweight nature, georgette fabric offers durability without adding unnecessary weight.

In order to make the most of the monsoon season, consider wearing a saree made of dark-coloured half silk, thin silk, chiffon, georgette, or muslin fabric. These materials allow the saree to dry quickly and not cling to the skin when wet, enabling better movement.

Additionally, opt for vibrant attire when attending events during the rainy season to counter the prevailing dark weather conditions.

Choosing garments that enhance your appearance and make you look radiant and energetic can have a positive impact on your overall experience.

“Denim proves to be highly practical during the wet season and suitable for all types of weather. If necessary, you can conveniently fold it, and its durable fabric provides damage resistance. The faded, light-coloured denim is a favourite among both boys and girls.

When choosing monsoon clothing, it’s important to take colour fastness into account. The impact of precipitation on saturated garments can lead to colour changes, creating discomfort for you and those around you.

To determine whether the color is suitable for the monsoon, try immersing or dampening a corner of the fabric and gently rubbing it to see if the color fades. If the color is released, it will affect the entire garment.

Many individuals are uncertain about what type of attire provides optimal comfort on wet days. Making thoughtful clothing choices can help address this concern effectively.”
