Bangladesh tops World Cup Cricket Super League

Bangladesh now has a three-digit “magic figure” on its currency! Bangladesh was second in the ODI Super League standings before the Afghanistan series. However, it was 15 points behind England at the top. Tamim Iqbal kicked off the series by proposing that the 13-team ICC Super League serve as the “selection” for the 2023 One-Day International World Cup. As a result, Bangladesh has surpassed both England and, more importantly, Bangladesh!

The ‘magic number’ in the box next to the name of Bangladesh is now at the top of the points list of the Super League – 100!

They have played 14 Super League matches thus far, winning ten and losing four. Bangladesh won each match by a margin of ten points, bringing one hundred. England, currently in second place, has played 15 matches and amassed 95 points. England has accumulated 90 points despite losing five of its first nine games. Another match ended in a draw; the English earned five points.

The top five teams in the points table cannot mathematically surpass Bangladesh in 14 matches. Ireland (68 points) and Sri Lanka (62) are ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, having played 16 matches. India, which is currently third in the standings with 79 points, has played 12 matches. Thus, if India wins the remaining two matches out of a possible 14, they will have 99 points!

Each team in the Super League will compete in four to eight series, both on their own and against the next fixer. Each series will consist of three pre-scheduled matches. Each match will be worth three Super League points. That is, each team will compete in 24 matches. The current season of the Super League will conclude in March 2023.

The first 10 teams in the points list at the moment in the Super League

Currently, India is in the top eight; if that is the case, the top eight teams in the points table will play directly in the World Cup. But if India is not in the first eight teams? Then, as the host, India will get a chance, in which case the first seven teams in the Super League points list will go straight to the World Cup. The remaining five teams from the 13 teams will play in the official qualifiers, with five more teams that have passed the qualifying round. Two teams will get a chance in the World Cup from that ten-team qualifier.

What happens if the points totals of two teams in the Super League are equal? Simple guidelines! It will first be determined which team won more matches between the two teams that finished with equal points. Then, if a match exists, the net run rate will appear. If no difference exists, those ahead of the two teams in the ICC One-Day International rankings on July 1, 2020, will remain ahead.
