Women’s football teams rise in FIFA rankings

Desk report: Bangladesh women’s football team has improved by two steps in FIFA ranking. Sabina Khatunra rose from 142 to 140 in the latest FIFA update on Friday.

Bangladesh girls played two FIFA friendly matches last month. The girls of Bengal beat Singapore in both matches, which is 12 steps ahead in the ranking. Bangladesh won the first match 3-0 and the next match 8-0. The girls advanced in the ranking with two great wins.

Among South Asian teams, only India and Nepal are above Bangladesh. India is at number 65 against Nepal which is ranked 105. India is ahead but has fallen four places from the previous ranking. India’s latest ranking was 61.

On the other hand, world champion Spain has topped the FIFA ranking for the first time. Second and third place are the girls of USA and France.
