Will Aminul challenge Tamim for BCB President?

I’ve come to play a T20 innings”—these were Aminul Islam’s words when he took up office as the President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) around three months ago.

At the time, he also said he did not plan to stay on the board for a long time.

But Aminul has appeared to change his mind recently. Only a few days back, he said he would not be averse to returning as BCB President again if nominated as a director by the National Sports Council.

“I will run in the director election as well,” Aminul told reporters while visiting the Sylhet District Stadium.

BCB Board of Directors election. The Board of Directors election will take place in the first week of October, as officially declared by the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Monday, 1st October.

The current President Aminul is expected to appoint names for a three-member election commission in the next couple of days. Once that process begins, we will start with the BCB election, which is also in full swing.

There is an all-pervading sense of curiosity among the country’s common cricket-loving public about who will contest the presidency.

In a recent interview with a daily newspaper, former national team captain Tamim Iqbal said, “If you ask me if I will contest in the BCB election, what I can say is that there is a very good chance. I’m running this time. I’ve put my money in cricket, and I belong to two clubs. I’m going to be a councillor, for sure.”

Tamim would also like to be president if he can first be elected as a director.

In all, 25 directors of the BCB are elected from different levels – clubs, divisional sports associations, and the National Sports Council. These directors vote to name the president.

“He is our president, and I’m the current secretary of the board, and we won the election,” Aminul told reporters in Sylhet today when asked if he wants to be the president again.”They have announced that the election of our board will be held in the first week of October, and it will be a proper election. The president here is elected, not directly, but you vote for the directors, and I will try to get something there.”

In future, if the opportunity comes, I will, in any way possible, serve Bangladesh.”

It means there could be two ex-captains of the national team contesting for the next BCB presidency this time.

Background. There has long been talk about the formation of regional cricket associations in Bangladeshi cricket. The activities began, but from the political changes on 5 August last year, there has been little progress.

The Sylhet organiser said at a briefing for reporters that they would soon restart these operations.
