What was seen throughout the day at FDC

It was 2:30 pm by the clock. Two security guards were on duty at the main gate of FDC. They said that there had been no shooting for a long time. They were working as they pleased.

While walking towards the canteen, I met the director and editor Abu Musa Debu. Later, we stood in front of the make-up room on the 6th floor and talked to him. He told us that a change had come in the country. A new government had been formed. The atmosphere at FDC was also a little different. Everyone seemed to be observing the situation. The producer had to come; the shooting had to start.

A few technicians were standing in front of the canteen chatting. They were talking about the new film. The conversation was dominated by various political issues. In the room next to the canteen, a few people were busy playing carrom. There was also a discussion about politics there.

Passing in front of the administrative building, I reached in front of the Producers Distributors Association. As soon as entered, a few people were sitting on the sofa on the right side and chatting. They had been seen in the canteen a while ago. The Producers Association of FDC is usually bustling with the activities of producers. Many producers started coming after noon. But due to the changing situation in the country, the number of producers visiting is relatively low. Those who used to come regularly are now very irregular. I learned from the person in charge of the reception that everyone has a different business. Some do contract. They might be busy on the other side.

The scene in front of the Directors’ Association is just the opposite. As deserted as the Producers’ Association office is, the Directors’ Association is as bustling as ever. Directors of all ages were sitting and chatting. Shah Alam Kiran was seen at the entrance, accompanied by Abu Musa Debu. Senior director Saidur Rahman was busy talking on the phone sitting inside. A large crowd was seen in front of the Directors’ Association. Just as the senior directors were there, chatting, so were the relatively younger directors coming in. They were chatting in groups. Some were sitting inside, some outside. Everyone was discussing the current situation. Many were observing. What was happening, where the country was heading, that was the topic of discussion.

A group of directors including Gazi Mahbub, Shahin Sumon, Kabirul Islam, Shahin Kabir were sitting and chatting outside the Directors’ Association. At one stage of the chat, actor Shiva Sanu joined them. After that, the chat seemed to get even more lively. They were telling each story, and everyone was laughing loudly. At this time, Shiva Shanu heard something, this is a place for talented people, there is no need to show off your muscle power here. Everyone will make films. We will all work together.

Many popular film’s dance and song scenes have been shot at the FDC’s Jharna spot. This attractive fountain spot on the film screen seems to have no charm. It has not been maintained for many days. The path is slippery due to accumulated rainwater and algae. People are even on the verge of falling while walking. When they came out, they saw a crowd in front of them. That group of 10-15 people was not from the shooting. It was learned that a section of the BNP-affiliated FDC employees were gathered there. They were discussing their various plans.

Meanwhile, the film directors were supposed to vote to elect a new leadership at the end of last year. But due to unavoidable reasons, it did not happen that day. The new date was January 10. The vote was not taken that day either. As a result, it was not possible to finalize the new leadership.

However, there are various arguments for and against the biennial election of the Directors’ Association. One side says that permission for the election was not obtained in BFDC because it is a KPI-affiliated area. Another side says something else. On the condition of anonymity, several film directors say that one side does not want the election to be held. This is because directors who support the autocratic Awami League are contesting in both panels. This is why the election is being postponed repeatedly.
