As Uttara Mourns, Bangladesh Eyes History Versus Pakistan
When the sun came up in Dhaka on July 22, 2025, there were two quite different realities at play in the city, one tragic, one triumphant. Uttara Plane Crash: A Grieving Locality
Shortly after take-off on Tuesday morning, around 9.35am, a single bedroom aircraft – operated by a private aviation training school – crashed and spun out of control. They struck in Uttara Sector 13 by the Jashimuddin Avenue flyover. The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has initially reported the aircraft was being used to train in and had two people – an instructor and pilot in training – on board. Sadly, both were killed in the accident.
Eyewitnesses on the ground described horrific scenes as the stricken plane nosedived and exploded just metres from homes and shops. Emergency teams flew to the site and put out the fire before surrounding the area to probe the cause. The episode has raised fresh questions about safety procedures and urban airspace rules, particularly in crowded neighbourhoods such as Uttara.
The Prime Minister offered condolences to the victims and their families and vowed a full inquiry. As grieving family members and local residents congregated near the site, mourners left flowers and said prayers for those who died. In a country where airplane crashes are unusual but especially painful, the crash has again highlighted how tenuous life can be amid a fast-growing urban environment.
Bangladesh Cricket: A Win for The History Books

It’s a must-win game for Pakistan. Head coach Mike Hesson said his side misread the pitch in the opening game and called for a better shot selection in the upcoming games. But it’s an open question whether tactical shifts can control the Tigers’ inherent home-field advantage.
