Former Bangladesh national cricket team captain Tamim Iqbal has withdrawn his nomination from the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections.
Tamim had earlier expressed interest in serving as a board director, particularly focusing on cricket operations. However, he has now stepped back from the race on his own accord.
The BCB election is scheduled for October 6, with October 1 marking the final day for nomination withdrawals.
Earlier on Tuesday (September 30) night, several club councillors voiced frustration after a High Court bench issued a stay order on former Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Faruque Ahmed’s writ petition. Some councillors even threatened to withdraw from the polls. The writ challenged the inclusion of 15 disputed clubs in the October 6 BCB board of directors’ election.
Rafiqul Islam Babu, councillor from Indira Road Krira Chakra, said, “It’s really unfortunate to see such conspiracy against the clubs. Such thing has repeatedly happened three to four times. The Election Commission also had approved the matter but still, the matter went to the court.”
Aminul Islam Bulbul, a candidate for BCB president post and Nazmul Abdein Fahim are highly likely to be elected as directors unopposed in the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) election after Jamalpur District Sports Association’s SM Abudllha Al Fuad Redwan’s nomination paper was not validated.
Dr. Sheikh Mohammad Zobayed Hossain, BCB’s returning officer, said that those who submitted their nomination papers from the three district and divisional sports organizations who did not have any rivals, have been validated.
That means former national team cricketers Abdur Razzak and Zulfiqar Ali Khan from Khulna, Shakhawat Hossain from Barisal division and Rahat Shams from Sylhet division are sure to become BCB directors unopposed, unless any of them withdraw their nomination papers.
The much-anticipated board directors’ election of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is set to be held on October 6 at a local hotel in the city from 10 AM to 4 PM with the results set to be announced at the same day at 6 PM.
A total of 25 BCB board directors will be elected with 10 form the Regional and District Cricket Association councillorship category, 12 from Dhaka Metropolis Club representatives category, and one from the ‘Others’ category.
The National Sports Council (NSC) will nominate the two remaining directors.
The interested person for BCB president post would have to be elected as BCB director first. The BCB directors will excise their vote to elect the president.
The president and vice-president elections will take place later that evening at 7:30 PM, with results expected by 9 PM.
At the same day, the president and vice-president election will also be held.
