Singer Noble granted bail in rape case

Singer Mainul Ahsan Noble has obtained bail in a case filed over the alleged confinement and rape of a former student of Eden Mohila College.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehera Mahbub granted bail upon a bond of Tk1,000 following a petition submitted by the defense.

The victim, whom Noble married on the premises of the Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj on 19 June under the supervision of prison authorities, during today’s hearing, said she has no objection if Noble is given bail.

Defense lawyer Md Monir Uddin said the case was filed due to a misunderstanding between the victim and the accused. They are now legally married, and the victim has no objection to his release on bail, he added.

On 18 June, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akter ordered the prison authorities to arrange the marriage of the victim with Noble by mutual consent and inform the court.

On 20 May, Noble was arrested in the Demra area of Dhaka in a case filed over the alleged abduction, confinement, rape, and torture of a woman over a period of seven years.

The case was filed by the victim with Demra Police Station, citing Noble as the prime accused, after police rescued her from a house in Demra following a call to the national emergency service 999.
