Recent instances need government accountability

The law-and-order situation in Bangladesh has deteriorated, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said Monday. The administration cannot evade accountability for any occurrences, he added.
Mirza Fakhrul told the reporters after meeting with temporary government Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus at State Guest House Jamuna at 7:45 pm tonight.

He said the BNP’s standing committee raised various issues with the main advisor. accountable political parties like the BNP are accountable for this. BNP fulfilled that duty.” Mirza Fakhrul says the administration must bear responsibility for recent events. He noted that the instances occurred in front of numerous troops, worsening law-and-order. “The fascists could discuss those.”

We keep repeating that this is an interim government. We asked them again to hold the election quickly, he told the reporters.

Mirza Fakhrul demanded an election immediately after discussing basic changes. The BNP also requested the return of fascist-era plundered funds and prosecution against fascist enablers in the administration. He also ordered the removal of unfounded litigation over the last 15-16 years.

“We discussed daily essentials prices. The government’s inability to regulate prices is one of its worst mistakes. They assured us they were working towards this.” Regarding law and order, Fakhrul said they asked the chief advisor to avoid innocent people from being harassed in “Operation Devil Hunt.”

The main advisor said the administration is organising the election by December. A roadmap is desired, the BNP top leader said.

Mirza Fakhrul said, “We will not agree with holding the local government election first. The parliament election must come first. We clarified this too.”

The gathering included BNP standing committee members Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed and Salahuddin Ahmed.
