National Genocide Day 2022 has been celebrated on the initiative of the UK branch of the Ghatok Dalal Nirmul Committee. It has asked for international recognition of the Bangladesh genocide and the death penalty for intellectual killer Chowdhury Mainuddin.
The programme began with the lighting of 16 lamps in memory of Chowdhury Mainuddin’s 16 most-martyred intellectuals. Following that, a minute of silence was observed to remember all of the martyrs of 1971. Finally, wreaths were laid at the Shaheed Minar. Ansar Ahmed Ullah, Founder President of the Ghatak Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee UK Branch, Ahbab Hossain, Mayor of Tower Hamlets Council, and Matiar Chowdhury, Senior Vice President of the Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee UK Branch, spoke at the meeting.
Mr. Murad Qureshi, Maruf Chowdhury, joint general secretary of the UK Awami League, Mahmudur Rahman Shahnur, a community activist, and Sushant Das, a member of the executive branch of the UK branch of the Ghatok Dalal Nirmul Committee. Also present on occasion were Jamal Khan, vice-president of the UK branch of the Ghatok Dalal Nirmul Committee, Mahfuza Talukder, a member of the executive committee, and journalist Rumana Rakhi, a member of the executive committee.
The programme was conducted by Syed Enamul Islam, President of the UK branch of the Ghatok Dalal Nirmul Committee. The event was presented by Munira Parveen, Acting General Secretary of the Ghatok Dalal Nirmul Committee UK.
