Bangladesh shines on the Miss Universe Stage
It’s customary to grace the world and leave quite a significant mark; we all know that Bangladesh is no exception, but this time it’s different – very radiant, as the 74th Miss Universe edition has just started. Our model/actress Tangia Zaman Methila has proved to be one of the leading contestants!’ With the so-called finals scheduled to be held on November 21, all eyes are now on Methila as she is currently ranked number five in the world for pay-per-view votes with over 73,000.
That this game even exists is a celebration for Bangladesh, not just of representation and resilience but also the rise of yet another global icon.
A Scholarly Safari Nida Allam, Special to The Times A Journey Centred on Style and Strength
An established name in the Bangladeshi fashion industry, Methila started off her career on the runway before moving to the screen. It was her bold, controversial introduction to Bollywood through Rohingya (2019) that marked her as a trailblazer for international offers.
Her own pageant road is equally decorated. Her pageant participation gained her representation for Bangladesh at Face of Bangladesh and Face of Asia 2019, where she was crowned as Miss Supranational Bangladesh 2019, followed by Miss Universe Bangladesh 2020.
She wasn’t able to compete internationally in 2020, but her return to Miss Universe this year definitely feels like the comeback she was meant for.
“Bangladesh is Unstoppable.”
In a sweet message for her patrons, Methil wrote:
“With your 73,000 votes, we are now number five in the world. It’s time that we, as a team, make an effort to win the crown for Bangladesh. Bangladesh is unstoppable.”
Her remarks reflect the energy on the ground across the country as supporters rally anew to her cause.
A Wave of Star Support
The Miss Universe journey of Methila has generated excitement across the entertainment world in Bangladesh. Celebrities such as Jaya Ahsan, Bubly and Runa Khan have expressed their support. However, all for Methila. @methil3, they write that it won’t be her victory. This is not the case of a ‘whore’ becoming the first Miss Universe from Bangladesh. #MissUniverse @TelegraphReport 7/8Hanneli.
A New Chapter for Bangladesh
Methila’s success at Miss Universe is the new for Bangladesh – confidence, international recognition, and the shattering of glass ceilings. Whether she ultimately brings the crown home or not, her mere presence has already broadened the horizons of how Bangladesh is recognised and celebrated around the globe.
As the clock ticks down to November 21, one thing is clear:
Methila, Bangladesh, looks excellent on you.
