On May 16, 2024, Cllr. Jyotsna Islam concluded her successful term as the Mayor of London Borough of Redbridge Council. On May 15, 2024, she hosted a grand thank-you celebration to express her heartfelt gratitude to everyone who generously supported her with the two chosen charities by donating funds and offering moral support. The event drew an impressive crowd of over three hundred attendees, including friends, celebrities, and community activists.
Both charities are non-governmental-funded: ELHAP (Every Life Has a Purpose) and London’s Air Ambulance. Cllr. Jyotsna Islam and her team raised a total of £27,700, which will significantly contribute to the two deserving causes. Fundraising for charitable causes is one of the mayor’s responsibilities.
At the celebration party, friends and colleagues praised her as a “wonder woman.” Throughout the year, she has spearheaded numerous civic projects on both national and international levels. One of her projects involved facilitating the relationship between the London Borough of Redbridge and the Manikganj municipal corporation in Bangladesh, which in turn will foster ties between England and Bangladesh. Additionally, she visited Sylhet Utsav in Kolkata, India.
At the reception, she orchestrated an event to express their gratitude, and many individuals—including the Leader of the Redbridge Council, local activists, and colleagues—voiced their deep respect for her civic contributions. People hailed her as a hard worker who reached out to all sectors of the community. Her approach and generosity distinguished her as a wonder woman, setting a stellar example for future leaders. Furthermore, the former mayor delivered on her promises upon assuming office. One of her most remarkable achievements was maintaining her full-time role while working for adult social care services during her mayoral term, unlike most mayors who take a break or work part-time.
The first Bengali mayor for the London Borough of Redbridge, Cllr. Jyotsna Islam, ended her mayorship on May 16, 2024. We wish her all the success in her future endeavours.
