Korean coach joins Bangladeshi taekwondo squad

The Bangladesh Taekwondo Federation has appointed experienced Korean poomsae coach Jun Gyu Choi to work with its national taekwondo team.

He will coach the national taekwondo team in poomsae. Jun Gyu has been appointed by the Bangladesh Taekwondo Federation, considering two international events of the country’s national team — the 14th South Asian Games (SA Games), to be held later this year, and the 20th Asian Games next year.

The new coach, after joining the team from South Korea on Sunday evening, reached Dhaka. His return was welcomed warmly at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by officials of the Taekwondo Federation.

TF vice president Asaduzzaman Khan Bablu, its members Arif Rabbani, Nurul Islam and Mariam Begum, and coaches Nirmal Chowdhury, Md. Kamruzzaman Chanchal, Abdur Rahman and Md. Korban Ali were present during the party.

BTF is currently in a residential training camp at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan. The athletes were training for the 14th edition of the South Asian Games in Pakistan and the 20th edition of the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The federation had to employ a foreign-qualified coach for the two crucial matches.

The federation has inked a four-month contract with Joon Gyu Choi to get things started. He is to be the coach until January 31 next year.” It will depend on his performance if the deal gets extended.

Jun Gyu Choi is a proven Taekwondo master with many years of experience as an athlete and instructor. He has had notable success at a national and international Taekwondo level.

The Bangladesh Taekwondo Federation hopes that its first world-class coach will train Bangladeshi taekwondo players and bring the country glory on the international stage.

The association holds high expectations for Jun Gyu Choi and anticipates that his inclusion will play a crucial role in elevating the organisation to an international level.
