Indian director banned for secretly shooting in Bangladesh

Filmmaker Rahul Mukhopadhyay’s “Kishmish,” received widespread praise from the Kolkata audience.

However, the Film Federation of Kolkata and the Directors Association of Eastern India were unaware of the director’s covert operations in Bangladesh during the current month.

Consequently, these organisations have imposed a three-month ban on the director. Multiple Indian media outlets have verified this information, adding credibility to the reports.

The president of the Film Federation, Swarup Biswas, shared with the media that Rahul is currently producing a film in Bangladesh, and there was a lack of awareness among the Federation and Eastern India Directors Association members, leading to a violation of the rules.

Rahul recently announced his upcoming project involving Puja, Prasenjit Chatterjee, and Anirban Bhattacharya. However, in adherence to the norms, SVF, the production firm, has made the decision to replace Rahul with Soumik Halder as the film’s director, while Rahul will continue to contribute as a creative producer.

Despite differing opinions, directors such as Kaushik Ganguly and Srijit Mukherjee have expressed concerns about what they perceive as an unjust ban on Rahul.
