Desk report: Bangladesh women’s A team suffered a batting collapse and lost the final of the Asian Cricket Council Emerging Teams Cup 2023 to India by 31 runs at Mission Road Ground in Mong Kok, Hong Kong, Wednesday.

Chasing 128 runs in the 20-over game, Bangladesh lost wickets regularly and were all out for just 96 in 19.2 overs.

Bangladesh was off to a good start as opener Shathi Rani scored 13 runs off 11 balls.

However, the women in red and green lost the momentum after conceding two wickets inside 3.2 overs and could never get back on track as they missed out on stitching together partnerships. Only three Bangladeshi batters got to the double-figure mark. A 22-ball 17 from Nahida Akter at No 7 was the top score in the Bangladesh innings.

Off-spinner Shreyanka Patil led the India A bowling unit with four wickets leaking just 13 runs in four overs, followed by left-arm spinner Mannat Kashyap’s three scalps.

Earlier, the India A team, upon batting, first posted 127 on the board for losing seven wickets.

Middle-order batter Kanika Ahuja scored an unbeaten 30 as Bangladesh bowlers put on a decent show.

Nahida and Sultana Khatun took two wickets each for the Tigresses.

Bangladesh middle-order batter Murshida Khatun finished as the tournament’s highest run-scorer with 59 runs at an average of 29.5.
