I fought corruption and beat it: Nipun Akter

DESK REPORT, DHAKA

Nipun Akter and Zayed Khan have been the talk of the town since the beginning of the year, mostly due to the numerous disputes surrounding their nomination for General Secretary of the Bangladesh Film Artistes Association. Zayed was initially chosen for the position of General Secretary. Due to claims that Zayed bribed voters, the Appellate Division terminated his candidacy. The Appellate Division said that Nipun would assume the position after he completed his candidacy.

In response, Zayed Khan served a legal notice to Nipun for taking over the General Secretary position. With hearing dates delayed multiple times, the last hearing was set for November 20.

Now, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has suspended the High Court’s order, which declared Zayed Khan’s candidacy valid. At the same time, the court approved Nipun’s appeal against the High Court verdict.

The Appellate Division ordered on November 20 that there is no obstacle to Nipun performing his duties as general secretary in the elections of the Film Artists Association.

After discussing this historic judgement with the newspaper media, Nipun stated, “I cannot express how I feel today.” I fought corruption and was ultimately successful. This sensation alone is incredible. I am now free to work in the Film Artists Association.
