The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has cancelled the allocation of Tk 5.0 million for a feature film titled ‘Moving Bangladesh’, Nuhash Humayun’s debut production.
Nuhash announced the making of this film four years ago. In 2022, the Ousted Awami League government allocated Tk 5 million for the film.
Mohammad Nazrul Islam, director of the Innovation Design and Entrepreneurship Academy (IDEA) project, which is run under the Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) of the ICT division, recently said they have no intention of producing a film under this project. He also mentioned that making a film is not the job of the ICT ministry.
The film ‘Moving Bangladesh’ received a fund of Tk 10.7 million from the Taipei Film Commission of Taiwan and Tk 2.5 million from the Screen Craft Film Fund. Tokyo Grant Financing Market, Marche du Film of Cannes Film Festival, Locarno Film Festival and Film Bazaar of India also provided funding for the film.
Regarding the funding, producer Arifur Rahman said the Tk 5 million is insignificant compared to the financing required to make Moving Bangladesh now. He also sees no obstacles to the film’s production even after the fund’s cancellation.
Nuhash Humayun says that the producer looks after matters relating to investments in the film.
“I am working on the script and matters related to directing the film,” he adds.
