Claim for Papon-Shakib’s resignation

Legal letters have formally requested the resignation of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president, Nazmul Hasan Papon, and the team’s captain, Shakib Al Hasan. The reason for this was the poor performance of the Bangladesh team in the One Day International Cricket World Cup.

On November 12th, a legal notification was dispatched to Riyar by Khandaker Shah, a lawyer practicing in the Supreme Court, by postal service with registered mail.

The legal notice has listed defendants including Nazmul Hasan Papon, the President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Nizam Uddin Chowdhury, the Chief Executive Officer of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, and Saqib Al Hasan, the captain of the Bangladesh National Cricket Team (Men).

As per the notification above, Shakib Al Hasan departed from the squad during the competition and returned to the nation for off-field training. The individual in question has already faced criticism on many occasions for engaging in the practice of shooting ads throughout the game, a behaviour that is seen as undesirable. The general populace anticipates higher professionalism and accountable conduct from an individual of prominence such as Shakib.

Within the contemporary realm of cricket, it is highly unlikely for a board to deliberately exclude the nation’s premier opener from the World Cup squad, despite the aspirations of such a side to reach the semi-finals. The individual whom Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina personally contacted subsequently resumed their participation in the game after retiring. Before the commencement of the World Cup, the team’s designated captain, Tamim Iqbal, decided to resign from his position.

The episode above highlights the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s inability to fulfil its responsibilities promptly and efficiently, neglecting the team’s overall interests in relation to the World Cup. Furthermore, it is worth noting that opener Liton Das made two visits to the country during the game, citing personal reasons related to the birth of his kid. The professional team deems a single visit permissible to address humanitarian concerns. The professional team reiterated this statement on several occasions. Such an occurrence is unacceptable within a professional squad, even if the match is not considered significant. The relaxed mindset of management is particularly unsuitable at times of utmost professionalism. Nevertheless, there need to be more effective measures taken in this particular instance as well.

The captain of the Bangladesh national men’s cricket team, Shakib Al Hasan, acknowledged during a press conference that their preparation level needed improvement.

These complaints are unlikely to be of assistance. However, the national team’s head coach, coaching staff, team management, selection committee, and Bangladesh Cricket Board need to improve their preparation. The lack of adequate preparation by the national team’s head coach, coaching staff, team management, selection committee, and Bangladesh Cricket Board has raised questions over their involvement in achieving success in the next ICC Men’s World Cup Cricket 2023. Consequently, the Bangladesh Cricket Board should hold the Bangladesh National Men’s Cricket Team accountable for their lack of victory.

The coaching staff and selection committee will terminate their services within a period of 30 days subsequent to the receipt of the notification. Simultaneously, the International Cricket Council (ICC) will establish an investigation committee with the purpose of investigating the underlying factors contributing to the lack of success seen during the Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2023.

In addition to these initiatives, the organisation will offer comprehensive training programmes to equip their coaches, establish domestic leagues, including wickets of comparable quality to international standards, and arrange cricket tournaments and training sessions tailored for schools and various age groups.

Simultaneously, the individuals in question will assume accountability for the World Cup’s failure, express remorse to the whole populace, and tender their resignations from their respective roles. Furthermore, the warning explicitly states that failure to complete the required actions will result in the pursuit of appropriate legal measures by the existing legislation.
