Samira Khan Mahi has made a place in the hearts of the audience in a short time. However, she does not measure herself by the criteria of popularity. Rather, she wants to improve acting skills by correcting her mistakes and flaws. She talked to Cinebuzz times about career and various personal issues.
- I would like to know your career plans this year…
The plan this time is that I want to add good work to my career. I have always done dramas. But this year I want to do one or two good OTTs. Cinema is a dream; it may or may not happen. Apart from that, I am trying to do dramas selectively. There is a reason for this. I have many weaknesses in many things. I should take a few classes. I should practice vocals. I should also learn to dance well. I want to take these lessons along with shooting.
- Is there anyone who can point out these weaknesses of yours?
No one specifically identifies me like that. When I see my own work, I think; Well, it would have been better if there was a little bit like that. Or when I see any work of seniors, I think that since they have gained such good experience and improved their acting skills, I should also do them. Since I have never taken any classes (acting). I started my journey by gaining popularity through drama. From there, I think that if I have a little education, it will be even better. Then maybe I can consider whether it is a good or bad job!
- Mahi’s turning point?
It was around the time I did ‘Girls Squad’ and ‘Hangor’. I played very different characters in a few other dramas. Since then, the audience has started taking me seriously.
- Do you think it is easy to get popular these days?
At one time, everyone used to watch dramas on television. Now, they watch dramas on YouTube. So many artists will come. That is natural. From among them, the audience will accept the actor they like. Earlier, there were not many options. Moreover, during Mehzabin Chowdhury Apu’s time, most artists came from
competitions. Now, they are coming through good work. However, I will say that popularity is a little easier than before. But it is not enough to get popularity, it is important to maintain it.
- Do you consider anyone a competitor?
No. I think they all have brought their own unique qualities. For example, I have a special skill, like speaking Sylheti, which the audience likes. Many call me a versatile actor. Some say, if you are given a rich character, you can do well. Even if you are given a village character, you can do well. So, I do not consider anyone my competitor. If you consider someone like that, the issue of jealousy will come up. I want to work in harmony with everyone.
- Whose contemporary acting do you like?
Tatini and Sadia Ayman came exactly a year after me; they are doing very well. I see everyone’s work. And I am not talking about the seniors. I have to see their work.
- Which actor do you enjoy working with the most?
I do not feel bad working with anyone. Now I am working more with Khairul Basar. Now I am working less with Niloy. Now I am working less with Mushfiq Farhan. Yash Rohan, Irfan Sajjad, Arosh Khan; I am working with pretty much everyone.
- You said cinema is a place of dreams at the beginning. What genre of cinema are you interested in?
After watching ‘Hawa’, I have a desire to act in films. If I ever act in films, then the first film should be like this kind of story. I do not want it to be very beautiful and glamorous. I want to play the character. We saw in ‘Hawa’. But there, Tushi was not decorated very beautifully. But the character was very important.
