Bangladesh demonstrate superiority in SAFF U-20 Championship

A diverse multitude of individuals eagerly anticipated Nepal’s performance in the SAFF U-20 Championship, filling the Anfa complex.

The enthusiastic spectators on their home turf boosted Nepal’s progress to the final match against Bangladesh. At the outset, Nepal dominated the game and demonstrated its scoring prowess.

However, it required assistance in effectively dealing with the skilled young Bangladeshi team and countering coach Maruful Haque’s strategies.

Mirazul Islam scored two goals, Rabbi Hossain added one, and Piyas Ahmed also found the back of the net, resulting in a convincing 4-1 victory over Nepal on August 28th. Bangladesh emerged victorious in the SAF Under-20 Championship.

Although Bangladesh has won all previous age-based tournaments, they were unable to secure the championship in the under-20 age group.

The young individuals demonstrated their superiority in the competition’s open space and emerged as the winners.

Throughout the game, Nepal maintained total control over ball possession and offensive play.

In a previous statement, Coach Maruful Haque emphasised the impressive power of Nepal’s two wings. The team’s exciting playing style sparked more discussion. Bangladesh faced challenges securing a win against Nepal, with a final score of 2-1 in the group round.

The Nepalese team’s performance during the final match was quite concerning, as they consistently managed to unsettle the Bangladesh defence with their pace.

Although Rabi was able to find the custodian on his own, he did not score any points at the start of the competition.

At present, the contest is in its sixth minute.

Mohammad Asif, the custodian for Bangladesh, made an impressive save in the ninth minute of the match, denying Niranjan Dhami’s long-range shot. Following that, Niranjan Dhami decided to make two more long-range attempts to evaluate the reliability of the Bangladeshi custody. Throughout this event, the Nepali forwards created multiple opportunities to score. In the 31st minute, Niranjan had full possession of the ball but could not find the back of the net. In the 23rd minute, Piyas, the Bangladeshi striker, could not successfully head the ball from Rabi’s free kick, thus failing to pose a challenge to Ziarat Sheikh, the Nepali custodian.

Thanks to an outstanding free-kick by Mirazul in the extra time of the first half, Bangladesh took a 1-0 lead. Mirazul was responsible for the attack. A clever move was enough to trick the two Nepalese defenders into entering the penalty area.

However, in the final moment, the Nepali defender fouled him, awarding Bangladesh a free kick just outside the box. Mirazul executed his right-footed free kick precisely, evading the Nepali custodian as it reached the goal after hitting the inside of the crossbar.

Bangladesh’s impressive goal against the prevailing momentum boosts energy, sending them into halftime feeling refreshed.

In the latter part of the game, it became evident that Nepal was determined to maximise their goal-scoring opportunities. Nepal is launching a strong offensive against Bangladesh.

On the other hand, the defence of Bangladesh demonstrated a significant improvement in effectiveness during the second half, as opposed to the first half.

Despite leading by two goals, Ashraful Haque, Shakil Ahad, and Asadul Islam maintained a calm and composed demeanor.

Rabbi consistently demonstrates a high level of excellence, as he typically does. The Nepali defender feels nervous when he receives the ball and prepares to kick it.

In the second half, Coach Maruful Haque Hesen changed the team lineup. Chandan Roy replaced Iftiyar, and Mainul Islam replaced Asadul Mollah.

Bangladesh scored another goal in the 55th minute, which changed the course of the game.

Asadul Rakib’s precise cross from the right side, taking advantage of the Nepalese team’s offensive approach to football, made Mirazul’s goal possible.

In the 70th minute, Bangladesh, already leading 2-0 and growing more confident, further increased their lead to 3-0. In addition, it employs a strategy of launching attacks from a lower position.

Rabbi displayed outstanding composure as he scored with precision, expertly receiving the ball at the forefront of the penalty area after Mirazul executed a cutback from the right flank.

Despite facing a significant deficit with a score of 3-0, the Nepal team demonstrated resilience and determination. They became highly motivated and driven in pursuit of their aspirations. Currently, both teams have committed several fouls throughout the game.

The Nepalese administration is concentrating on leveraging their slight advantage over their opponents. It is critical to highlight the significance of defending Bangladesh, particularly the role of Asif, the team’s custodian.

They stayed determined despite the challenging circumstances they faced. Nepal impressively scored a goal in the opening eight minutes of the contest.

Samir Tamang’s goal played a crucial role in driving their progress. The crew felt enthusiastic after receiving an additional 10 minutes. Piyas Ahmed’s goal in the 95th minute secured a victory for Bangladesh. In contrast, Nepal held a different perspective on this idea.

The Nepalese have alleged that they redirected Pius’ shot away from the goal line. On the other hand, the referee is firm in their decision regarding the goal.

Bangladesh had one last opportunity to score a goal in the match’s closing moments. Regrettably, the rabbi was unable to fulfil that request. After a day filled with intense conflict, Bangladesh successfully defended against the attacks from Nepal and emerged as the victor.

Bangladesh has emerged as the victorious team in the SAFF Under-20 Championship, securing the title for the first time.
