Former Bangladesh cricket captain Tamim Iqbal is “doing very well” in his recovery from a heart attack following a stent procedure, doctors have said.
Tamim Iqbal was transferred to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka on March 25, a day after surviving a major heart attack during a Dhaka Premier League match at the BKSP in Savar.
On Thursday, Dr Arif Mahmud of Evercare Hospital said he would be able to return home after another 48 hours of observation if things went according to plan.
Dr Shahabuddin Talukder, a senior consultant of the hospital’s Cardiology Care Center, spoke about Tamim’s current physical and mental state.
The hospital formed a five-member board led by Shahbuddin to assess Tamim’s physical condition.
“According to a board meeting report, Tamim is doing very well. He eats properly and speaks to everyone. He will return to his [cabin] from CCU [cardiac care unit] today. He will then be observed for a day or two. Then he will be able to return home,” Shahabuddin said.
Tamim underwent an echocardiogram and other small tests as part of his regular assessment on Thursday. Shahbuddin said all tests returned good reports.
Tamim, the captain of Mohammedan Sporting Club, complained of sharp pains in his chest before the team took to the field in a match against Shinepukur Cricket Club at Savar’s BKSP No. 3 field on Mar 24.
He was then rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors discovered a block in his heart and decided to fit a stent to restore blood flow.
