Despite having the world’s most powerful countries in its “pocket,” Israel is behaving unusually unstable. Especially in response to Hamas’ attacks, Israel’s monstrous attempt to annihilate the Muslims of Gaza is a clear demonstration of the fragility and instability within the Israeli authorities. A kind of panic or phobia has struck Israel. A sense of existential crisis seems to have gripped the state’s leaders.
The question of why Israel behaves so restlessly despite being prosperous and well-equipped in every way is being raised. This is being written about in the external media and social media. This article used those sources.
The phrase “curse of the 1980s” is being loudly repeated in response to Israel, as the search for answers to why Israel is behaving so frantically in Gaza, why they are desperate to swallow up the whole of Gaza.
This term is called the ‘Curse of the Eighth Decade’. In Arabic, it is called ‘La’natul Aqdis Samin’.
The term ‘Curse of the Eighth Decade’ originated from a prophecy in the Talmud, the most crucial religious law of the Jews. (It is worth mentioning here that the Talmud is not the Torah, the religious book of the Jewish community. It is a code of ethics and laws written by Jewish scholars in the light of the Torah, which indicates what Jews should do, observe, and abandon in their daily lives.)
One of the predictions of this Talmud is that no Jewish state will last more than eight decades. It will collapse. And that collapse will not be due to any external force. It will be due to the conflicts between the nations and tribes. This has been seen.
History testifies that small and large sovereign Jewish states have been established in various places over the past two thousand years. Of these, except for the reign of King David (who is Prophet Dawud in Islam) and the Hasmonean dynasty, no ‘Jewish state’ has lasted more than 80 years.
Although King David’s reign and the Hasmonean dynasty lasted more than 80 years, they fell apart after 80 years.
Israel, today is modern ‘Jewish state’, was born on May 14, 1948. It will be 80 years old in 2028, which means there are three years left. If the Talmudic prophecy is true, Israel is supposed to collapse within three to four years. Many Israelis fear that is what is going to happen.
Since the Jewish community of Israel believes in their religious scripture, the Torah, and follows the revelations of the Talmud regarding commandments and prohibitions, a substantial portion of the inhabitants of Israel have serious discussions among themselves about the “curse of the eighth decade.”
Some media reports from Lebanon say that since Israel is now 77 years old, many Jews are discussing how to evacuate Israel if a disaster strikes. They believe that this natural phenomenon can come down to infallible rules.
In a column published in The Middle East Monitor on May 12, 2022, Dr Mohammad Makram Balawi, Director General of the League of Parliamentarians for Al Quds, said that divisions among Israelis are already becoming visible. The conflict between the Haredi community and religious Zionists has deepened.
The ‘Curse of the Eighties’ is not only discussed in Jewish society, but it has also been mentioned many times in the words of Palestinian and Arab leaders. Twenty-five years ago, Hamas founder Sheikh Ahmed Yassin said that the period of Israel’s collapse had begun.
However, many historians say that since all the previous Jewish states collapsed within 80 years, religious leaders spoke of this curse so that the Jews would not end up fighting among themselves in the future, so that they would remain united.
Many say that the third generation emerged in the eighties. They say that the founding generation is usually united after the establishment of a state. Some conflict arises among their children, that is, the second generation.
And among the children of the second generation, that is, the third generation, that conflict takes its final form. It takes about 80 years. From that perspective, it is natural for the citizens of Israel to have disagreements with each other. But it is not logical that the powerful state of Israel will collapse into internal strife by 2028. They want to dismiss the idea of this curse as a religious superstition.
