Azmeri Haque Badhan is a single mother. But she does not want to spend the rest of her life alone. The actor feels the need for a life partner. She talked to CINEBUZZ TIMES about her personal life.
- I heard your daughter also say that her mother needs a companion.
My daughter is a little older now. She slowly understood that a mother must do everything alone, she must suffer alone and fight alone. Seeing everything, the daughter felt that her mother needed a companion.
- Since when did your daughter realise this?
My daughter has understood this in the last one to one and a half years. Before, I used to understand that even if my cousins called me on my phone, they would not like it. Why are my cousins calling (laughs)? She is so obsessed with her mother that is what happens. Usually, this happens when there are single parents. Children of single parents are so attached that they cannot tolerate anyone else with their parents. Now that my daughter has grown up, she gives me space. People around me also start talking about a life partner. My daughter understands me and thinks my mother may need it. I may not have thought about it that way, to be honest. I have not thought about it for so many years. Now I am thinking about it. Because if there is a life partner, there is no problem.
- What kind of life partner do you want?
When it comes to a life partner, they must accept me for who I am. And that is rare in our society, unlike the ones I have found in countless places around me.
- When did you realise that you need a life partner in your life?
I have been thinking about a life partner for about a year and a half.
- If I may say, you brought up such a decision after finding someone like that.
No, no, it is not like that at all. I have not found anyone yet. As I said, it is not like life partners are scattered around. But life partners are needed. Now, I think a lot more about having a life partner. People do not have… If someone comes along who understands the word life partner, I will walk with them as a companion.
- Now you are talking about your daughter and yourself, but even a year ago, you used to avoid the topic of marriage. Is there any reason for suddenly bringing up marriage plans?
There is no reason. I have passed the age of forty. I have told you before that I am getting a different life in 40 years. So, in this new life, I feel I can find a partner. A person cannot exist without a partner. My entire life has been spent without a partner. Be it marriage or something like that, nothing has ever happened in my life that I have found a true partner on the path. I have always found either a monster or someone who is torturing me; I have found such a person. I have found such a person who is abusing me. Everyone who comes into my life comes as an obstacle. No one has come to smooth my path. So those who will be obstacles in my life, they cannot be in my life. It is not even possible. So, in that sense, I have not found a life partner, but it is true. Overall, now I feel that a partner can be on the path.
- Those who were coming, before they arrived, thought they might be monsters…
(Thinking for a moment) Of course not. You cannot understand people from a distance like that anymore.
- So, is there still fear or panic about the new life partner that comes along?
I feel a kind of panic. Because of fear, I cannot even try to find a life partner. Suppose I think about someone. Before I do, I take one step forward and then ten steps back. I keep thinking, “No, there’s really no need.”
- You entered showbiz from a beauty pageant. Many say others write columns that beauty pageants present women as commodities. What is your opinion on this?
I do not know what anyone says! In a beauty contest, not only are looks considered, but educational qualifications, behavior, and additional qualifications are also considered. It may be dancing, singing, or acting. Let me give you some information: When I was in a beauty contest, I used to get one or two marks in dancing and singing because I did not know how to dance or sing. But I used to get ten out of ten in behavior and discipline.
Girls from beauty contests are involved in many social service works. There is a segment in beauty contests where contestants are asked to say what they will do for society. Many people may not know these things. There is no harm if someone wants to develop their career through beauty contests. I do not think such contests present women as a product at all.
