On May 22, 2024, at Mansion House in London, the London Tea Exchange held an event to launch and sign “The Global Fair Pay Charter.” The event brought together corporate executives, lawmakers, UN delegates from the Commonwealth, representatives from Oxfam, ambassadors, and councillors.
The group included Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland, and United Nations Assistant Secretary-General Nikhil Seth. Lord Mayor Michael Maneli also participated in the event.
The launch aims to inform customers and foster partnerships with tea-producing countries. The Global Fair Remuneration Charter, developed by Sheikh Aliur Rahman (OBE) over 24 years, aims to enhance the living conditions and compensation of over 120 million tea plantation workers worldwide.”
What is the justification for an individual’s reluctance to adopt a charter that aids our community’s most socially and economically disadvantaged members and ultimately contributes to a more equitable and just society for all? To reiterate, I sincerely congratulate The London Tea Exchange, with a special mention to Sheikh Aliur Rahman and his team for their ceaseless commitment and diligent endeavours. We extend our best wishes for the future success of the London Tea Exchange and all partners who have already registered for the event. Furthermore, the remaining nations support the cause and guarantee that those communities receive appropriate reparations.
