Jannatul Sumaiya Himi is a popular actress of this generation. Almost all the dramas she has acted in are trending on YouTube. Now she has added songs. She talked about all this with Cinebuzz Times.
The dramas you acted in are often trending; this time, the songs you sang are also trending. Tell me a little about the song?
Jannatul Sumaiya Himi: I learned singing in Chhayanaut and Kachikancha as a child, so there is a different nostalgia about the song. People have seen or heard the song now; it has also become trending. I liked it. Drama is being done every day. Acting in dramas has become like a job. I saw that people have accepted the song like the drama now, and I liked it. It was a lot of surprises for me. Another reason for liking it is that my co-artists, close people and fans have wished me well for the song. So, I can’t say right now whether the song carries a separate importance or not. How many views does it have, whether I like my works more than that, that is the issue. That is important.
You got a lot of responses. Will you be regular?
Jannatul Sumaiya Himi: I don’t know how much I can be regular. If I get an offer to sing an original song later, I will do it. I think that if I can’t be stuck in a certain area or if people accept it, I can do what I like. Even if I’m not that regular at singing, I will sing as a hobby.
What is your philosophy on views?
Jannatul Sumaiya Himi: I don’t have a specific philosophy on views. I think it’s a part of any project. The script of a project must be good, then the work is done in coordination with the location, artist and director. So, I want people to see that work. We work so hard, so when there are views, it feels good. Because there are views, because people are watching, they are praising, discussing and criticizing. This is important. For the producers who are directly involved, the issue of views is about making money from it. If they don’t see my work now, the producers won’t think about me for the next project. They might go for an alternative decision.
Many people complain that the dramas and characters you act in are almost similar.
Jannatul Sumaiya Himi: We have a lot of shortcomings in terms of stories; we cannot show many characters, and we must keep various religious and political issues in mind. So again, even though some stories are different, I cannot play the role of a university-educated girl of my age or a married woman. However, we try not to make all the characters similar. We try to present ourselves in different stories and different backgrounds. However, sometimes due to limitations, I cannot play all types of characters. This is also true, many are similar. A slightly quarrelsome character, a boyfriend-girlfriend type character, is more popular with people, so most of them seem similar. But I will try. I also try to work in realistic stories with a rural background.
Many actors have worked in a completely opposite genre to their own at some point in their careers.
Jannatul Sumaiya Himi: Every person changes their career plans over time. Even if they don’t change on their own, they change. If they get bored doing one type of work, they might have to work in a different genre. Even if I go into films, I still must act. Even if I go into OTT, it’s the same. I don’t think anyone changes their genre completely. They might add something new with time. Sometimes they experiment. Each person comes to that realization at their own time. I never thought that I would work in another genre.
Small screen producers and actors are getting success on the big screen. What are your plans for movies?
Jannatul Sumaiya Himi: Actually, an actor cannot move forward much by making any plans. Because we do not have much control over the decisions of our work, for example, for such and such work, I must do the casting first. No matter how much I plan to make a movie, movie offers will also have to come. I think that is the case. I have not yet received movie offers as I had wanted to. I still get a lot of drama scripts. So, I am busy with dramas. There are always discussions about dramas. If at some point in the future I feel like doing movies, becoming regular, maybe at some point I may have such thoughts about movies.
