A R Rahman’s campaign boost helps Harris

Rahman is the first major international artist from South Asia to endorse Harris

The esteemed Indian composer and musician A. R. Rahman has created a thirty-minute performance video to demonstrate his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris. We expect the film to significantly enhance her presidential campaign ahead of the November 5 general election.

Rahman is the first well-known South Asian musician outside South Asia to support Harris, making him a pioneer. Rahman’s ancestry traces back to both Africa and India. According to Shekar Narasimhan, head of the Asian American and Pacific Islander Victory Fund, Rahman’s endorsement harmonises his voice with other prominent figures and artists in the US fighting for advancement and visibility.

The AAPI Victory Fund’s YouTube channel and significant South Asian networks like AVS and TV Asia will broadcast the exclusive performance as part of a strategic initiative to mobilise support for Kamala Harris among South Asian voters globally.

The thirty-minute event will feature several of Rahman’s most renowned songs alongside statements highlighting Kamala Harris’s historic candidature and her commitment to the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities.

A teaser video on YouTube shows Rahman and M. R. Rangaswami, the founder of Indiaspora, getting ready for the performance.
