Speakers at the discussion meeting titled ’71 in our hearts’ in London said, ’71 in our hearts is our pride and victory.’ We must take care that the achievements of 71 are not destroyed. There is a need for another cultural revolution that captures the spirit of 71.
This was expressed by the speakers at the discussion titled ’71 in our hearts’ organised by the Bangabandhu Sanskritic Jote UK branch at a restaurant in Brick Lane, East London, on 28 November, under the chairmanship of President freedom fighter Khalil Kazi OBE and jointly conducted by the organisation’s General Secretary, former student leader Councilor Mujibur Rahman Jasim and poet Azizul Ambia. Freedom fighters, politicians, journalists, cultural workers, doctors, researchers, poets, and writers in Britain participated in the event.
Politician Zalal Uddin was present as a guest, and researcher and freedom fighter Dewan Gous Sultan spoke as the main discussant. Among others, Dr Kazi Mukhlesur Rahman Mukul, freedom fighter Faizur Rahman Khan, Mayor of Barking and Dagenham Council Councillor Moin Qadri, Satyabrata Das Swapan, vice-president of the organisation Councillor Abdul Aziz Taki, human rights activist Abdul Ahad Chowdhury, former speaker of Tower Hamlets Council Ahbab Hossain, politicians Sarab Ali, Rafiqul Ullah, human rights activist Jahanara Rahman, politician Syed Suruk Ali, journalist Ansar Ahmed Ullah, poet Nazrul Islam Okib, journalist Kamrul I Russell amongst others.
The meeting strongly condemned the attack on government establishments, including Bangabandhu’s house, and the removal of Bangabandhu’s portrait from the London High Commission. The ceremony began with the national anthem and was graced by poetry recitations by cultural activist Smrity Azad, poet Advocate Mujibul Haque Moni, and Councillor Syed Firoz Gani.
